Prof Spyridon Rangos

Professor of Ancient Greek Literature and Philosophy, University of Patras

Spyridon Rangos is Professor of Ancient Greek Literature and Philosophy in the University of Patras. He has been educated as a classicist in the University of Athens and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. He has been a Research Fellow at Princeton University, Fellow in Comparative Cultural Studies, and Associate in Hellenic Studies at the Center for Hellenic Studies / Nafplion, Harvard University, the Director of a Graduate Program in the University of Patras, and the President of the European Society for Ancient Philosophy. His research focuses on metaphysics and the history of ideas in Greek antiquity. He has published extensively on authors ranging from early poetry (e.g. Hesiod) to late antique philosophy (e.g. Proclus), including Plato and Aristotle. His recent book Θαυμάζειν – Ἀπορεῖν – Φιλοσοφεῖν (Crete University Press 2023) has been awarded a prize of excellence by the Academy of Athens (2024).
