Dr. Jun Zhao
Founder of the Oxford Child-Centred AI Design Lab
Dr Jun Zhao is a Senior Researcher in the Department of Computer Science at Oxford University and Founder of the Oxford Child-Centred AI Design Lab (http://oxfordccai.org). Her research focuses on investigating the impact of algorithm-driven decision makings upon our everyday lives, with a particular emphasis on families and young children. She takes a human-centred approach, focusing on understanding real users' needs, in order to design technologies with tangible, real-world impacts.
Currently, she is leading several research projects, looking at supporting children’s digital agency development (http://chaild.org), creating and promoting ethical design principles (http://aiethicaldesign.org), and creating new technical infrastructure to enable data autonomy (http://ewada.ox.ac.uk).
She work closely with schools, children, families as well as technologists for children, to understand the technological, societal and regulatory challenges that we are facing, to inform national and international policymakers, technology designers and families.
She frequently speaks at national and international venues on designing ethical AI systems for children. She currently serves on the advisory boards of Oxford AIEOU and the Oxford Reuben College's Generation AI programme. She has published over 100 papers in top tier conferences and journals.
