About

Set in the cradle of philosophy, next to Aristotle’s ancient Lyceum, The Lyceum Project  is an annual multidisciplinary initiative where Philosophy meets AI, that comes alive each year on June 20. Organised by leading academic institutions, research centres, and global organisations, visionary thinkers and doers,  this unique initiative bridges timeless philosophical wisdom with groundbreaking AI innovation.

The Lyceum Project uncovers insights and offers pathways that guide technology toward sustaining and enriching the interconnected web of life. This modern Lyceum provides a space where philosophy, science, the arts, and humanities converge to tackle the greatest challenges of our time.

Vision and Mission

The Lyceum Project envisions to be a global multidisciplinary initiative that brings together academics, practitioners, policy makers, artists and civil society to deliberate on: what it means to be human in the age of AI; how to guide technology with wisdom and integrity, ensuring AI empowers humanity while upholding fairness, transparency, and trust; how innovation aligns with our highest values, shaping a future that benefits all.

The inaugural edition of The Lyceum Project in 2024 introduced an Aristotelian ethical framework to address AI’s challenges and opportunities. This foundation, outlined in the white paper “Lyceum Project: AI Ethics with Aristotle” by Oxford’s John Tasioulas and Stanford’s Josiah Ober, continues to guide the project’s vision.

The Lyceum Project builds upon the Artistotelian ethical framework and aligns with efforts for Inclusive and Sustainable Artificial Intelligence for People and the Planet to foster inclusive and multi-stakeholder dialogues and cooperation on AI governance.

The Lyceum Project also fulfils the convening function of one of the Flagship Programmes  in Greece’s AI Transformation Blueprint and serves as the venue for an annual high-level global meeting on AI ethics and policy.

Organisers

The founding organisers in 2024 were: Oxford’s Institute for Ethics in AI, in partnership with Stanford’s Human Centred AI, Greece’s National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos” (NCSR-D), and the World Human Forum (WHF).

As of 2025, The Lyceum Project is organised by NCSR-D, WHF, in cooperation with the Special Secretariat of Foresight and hosted by Athens Conservatoire.

Every year, The Lyceum Project is organised in affiliation with academic partners responsible for organizing and funding sessions of the event, such as the Young Scholars session, as well as consulting on academic aspects of the event.

The Lyceum Project welcomes globally recognised panelists with the support of academic, industrial and other stakeholders.

The Lyceum Project is supported each year by academic, industrial, communication and media sponsors.
