Alexandros Rizopoulos is an ethnomusicologist (PhD), percussionist, and composer, with
academic training in ethnomusicology, music science and art, and architecture. He is
currently a Visiting Lecturer at the Department of Music Studies, National and Kapodistrian
University of Athens, where he teaches Greek traditional percussion. His research and artistic
practice focus on microtiming, soundscapes, performance, cultural organology, and musical
communities of the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean. He has presented papers,
lectures, and workshops in academic and artistic contexts in Greece and abroad, and has
collaborated with institutions such as Music Village, Labyrinth Musical Workshop, the
National Conservatories of Paris and Berlin, and the World Human Forum. As a composer
and performer, he has contributed to productions of the Greek Ministry of Culture’s “All of
Greece, One Culture” programme, and performs with ensembles including Alenti Quintet
and People of the Wind. In 2023, he received a patent for an innovative percussion
accessory.
