Prof. Angie Hobbs FRSA

Professor of Public Understanding of Philosophy Emerita, University of Sheffield

Angie Hobbs is Professor of the Public Understanding of Philosophy Emerita at the University of Sheffield. Her chief interests are in ancient philosophy, and ethics and political theory from classical thought to the present, and she has published widely in these areas, including Plato and the Hero (C.U.P); her most recent publication for the general public is Why Plato Matters Now (Bloomsbury 2025).  She works with a number of policy sectors (including the U.K. National Health Service and Civil Service), and she contributes regularly to TV and radio programmes and other media around the world, including 10 programmes for Cosmote History. She has spoken at the World Economic Forum at Davos, the Delphi Economic Forum, the Athens Democracy Forum, the Symi Symposium, the Houses of Parliament, the Scottish Parliament and Westminster Abbey. She was on the World Economic Forum Global Future Council 2018-9 for Values, Ethics and Innovation.
